FAQ

1. What if I can't stay awake when I meditate?

First of all, if you're that tired, your body probably needs some sleep :). But one benefit of meditation is clearing out the subconscious so it's easier to fall asleep at night and you experience much better sleep in general. For example, one study showed:

"Both groups met six times, once a week for two hours. Compared with the people in the sleep education group, those in the mindfulness group had less insomnia, fatigue, and depression at the end of the six sessions." Source

Meditating also helps you learn to be more in tune with your body's needs so you're able to moderate your energy better throughout the day.

The best part about this type of meditation is that it actively engages your mind.  Kundalini Yoga and Meditation uses the movement of kriya yoga sets to exercise the body and get the energy moving before you settle into a meditation so the body is more likely to be alert but able to rest and the mind more likely to focus.

2. What if I just want to learn how to meditate and not "grow closer to Christ"?

There are many different ways to meditate and even though growing closer to Christ may not be your goal, meditation is a highly spiritual act.  I feel I would be misleading to say otherwise.  Meditation is a form of prayer but prayer is not always meditative.  Kundalini Yoga and Meditation is not a religion but it is spiritual.  That doesn't need to be scary.  It doesn't mean you have to go to church.  This type of yoga meets you where you're at and you can bring with you what ever religious or spiritual background and beliefs you have and allow those to take deeper root.
"This is a living relationship rather than one dictated by a static list of spiritual things to do.  We have seen that man has the ability to keep the law of God without investing himself emotionally and spiritually, his tendency being to routinize his spiritual practice so as to save himself the mental and spiritual effort of staying tuned to the Lord." - M. Catherine Thomas
3.  What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a 5,000-year old authentic system of yoga exercise and meditation which combine breathing, movement, stretching and sound which promotes health, happiness and awareness.  Practicing Kundalini Yoga keeps the body in shape, increases vitality, and trains the mind to be strong and flexible in the face of stress and change. It balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, and enhances creative potential.

"Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul.
In Kundalini Yoga we harness the mental, physical, and nervous energies of the body and put them under the domain of the will, which is the instrument of the soul. This technology precisely and consciously combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purifiy the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.
Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. When we apply the technology of Kundalini Yoga to our bodies and minds, it has the effect of uplifting the spirit. It is for everyone. It is universal and nondenominational."
"Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. ... Kundalini Yoga is not a fad, and it's not a cult. It's a practice of experience of a person's own excellence, which is dormant and which is awakened." (Source)

4. Is Yoga compatible with Christianity?

Yes.  I believe it is completely compatible.  I have my own experience of my faith deepening immensely when I began my practice sincerely and there are so many other faithful Latter-Day Saints and Christians of other denominations who have found the same deepening of their faith due their own personal practice.
